Kuvasz - How to Choose a Breeder

There are some general guidelines that can help locate a responsible breeder. First, be an informed buyer. Get to know as much as possible about the Kuvasz breed. Do not be afraid to ask questions. It is you who will have to take care of the dog. Therefore, a true breeder is interested in educating you. A responsible breeder cares for the well being of the puppies s/he produces.

The AKC registration, as it is, does not imply high quality of the litter. Reputable breeders should show their dogs. Ask a breeder what championships the breeding stock had achieved. If there are several award winners in the breeding line and the puppy's pedigree is rather impressive, there are chances that your puppy will earn a championship in the future as well.

Most reputable breeders have waiting lists. It means that those who advertise in newspapers produce a lot of puppies for mere commercial purposes. They may not be working towards national standards.

Visit the kennel to see the conditions in which the puppies are growing. See both the sire and the dam. Have a long conversation with the breeder. It is necessary to speak on the health issues of the breed. All medical certificates should be available for you to look through. If the breeder thinks you are able to cope with the large dog ownership, Kuvasz Dogs may be the right choice for you.
